While many students skip over the planning stage because of time constraints, a good plan makes every phase in assignment writing easier and faster.

This section describes the process of planning an assignment.

After placing the start and end dates into boxes below, the Assignment Planner will create a to-do list with suggested dates for completion following a generative writing process.

With those dates, the Assignment Planner will provide links to resources from both the Writing Center and KU Libraries. Simply enter the date that you intend to begin working on the assignment and the date that the assignment will be due in the boxes below. A plan will be generated using these dates as guides.

While this is fine, it is often clearer to include one plan per paragraph.

Look at your plan or map and decide on the key concepts that link the different sections of your work.

We all tend to forget about things or postpone them to the last minute, and it might bring troubles and stress to your life.

It can also decrease your grades because when you don’t have enough time for an assignment, it is hard to do quality work.

Always check the type of assignment that you are being asked to produce and consider what would be the most appropriate way to structure that type of writing.

Remember that in most (not all) writing tasks, especially short tasks (1,000 to 2,000 words), you will not write headings such as introduction and conclusion. Introductions need to provide general information about the topic.
