Over the years theatre has changed tremendously, and if it wasn't for these five people, things would probably be a lot different. If you look at all my experience in music and theatre in my past, it seems only natural that I go into the Musical Theatre Department at Sam Houston State University.

SHSU's Musical Theatre Dept is considered, by Kennedy Center, to be one of the top four in the Nation, and I was rewarded one of only 11 open slots into this amazing program. I will be doing an essay on African American theater history. I know that it has been around for hundreds of years and when you are done reading this essay, I hope you have learned a lot. It opened at the Third Avenue Theatre in New York City and was the first true show. This was the first black show ever to open on Broadway at the New York Theatre in Times Square. This is only the second African-American theater to join the League of Resident Theatres. It is precisely this passion, not only for performing but for theatre as a whole, that makes me want to attend the Boston University Theatre Institute.

One way or another theatre is a great intellectual experience. To me intellectual experience is the overall outcome of creative, analytical and psychological processes that happen in our mind as a result of stimuli.

In theatre stimuli is a dramatic action on the stage.

This essay will discuss the development of theatre in the 20th century. It will trace the development of theatre from the late 19th century through realism, naturalism, symbolism, Epic theatre, Existentialism and the Theatre of the Absurd. It will also give insight into the many key theatre practitioners that influenced 20th century theatre. This essay has now shown the development of 20th century theatre by tracing it through the different genres and answering each genre: Why it emerged? (1968) I will also explain how the situation of the current time of Asinamali (Ngema, 1987), which was Apartheid, contributed to 'the politics of the body' in general and also in physical theatre as a whole.
