The dissertation length is up to 9,000 words, not including footnotes or bibliography.
Undertaking a dissertation will allow students to undertake a substantive piece of historical research and produce an article-length essay.
If you enrol on a joint degree, you will study two different subjects (instead of only one) at the same time throughout your entire degree.
For instance, if you are studying a History and Politics joint degree, you'll do a mixture of History and Politics courses across the four years of your degree.
In your fourth year, you will decide whether to complete a History or Politics dissertation .
We offer a range of joint degrees that combine different subjects from within the School (e.g.Joint degrees are different from 'single honours' degrees, in which you choose to specialise in a single subject and will mainly study courses in that subject.However in years one and two, you may well be able to choose courses from outside subjects.Fortnightly tutorials in groups of around six are held for Junior Honours modules; Senior Honours modules have larger group seminars.The dissertation is a fourth-year module that is compulsory for single honours students and for joint honours students not doing a dissertation in their other subject.You may be keen to continue with two subjects you have enjoyed at college level, for example English and History; or you might be interested in adding a new subject area to your existing study experiences, for example History and Film, or English and Philosophy.Although some of our joint honours programmes may have prerequisites from both subject areas, in others you will find that your choice of subjects at college or school will not have been restrictive.After graduating from one of our joint honours programmes, you can still progress to more specialised Masters level study.We offer a huge range of degree programmes, many of which we refer to as 'joint degrees' or 'joint honours'.You can also choose which discipline, or both, your dissertation will be focused on, if your choice of programme requires or you decide to write one.Your joint honours degree will be as academically rigorous, challenging and valued as our single honours programmes, but you will benefit from the additional breadth of knowledge you have encountered.
