Kindergarten Homework Activities

Many parents and administrators are all for it, many teachers are against it. The topic of homework for young children is one that is fiercely debated in the field of early childhood education. But before I dive in, let me answer the most frequently asked question. Google Classroom activities have made my job as a teacher so much easier. Would love quick and clear activities for word work? Here children can build the word by dragging letters, find the word in the word search and choose the right spelling.

About 6 years ago I decided to simplify my homework program.

Rather than giving weekly homework packets (mostly worksheets), I decided to try giving monthly assignments.

Thankfully, we offer a vast supply of free kindergarten worksheets that parents and teachers can use to provide young pupils with some much-needed academic support — and increased confidence.

When using these printable kindergarten worksheets at home, parents should consider setting up a designated workspace (a desk or table) stocked with all the necessary supplies so the child can focus on the tasks at hand.

Each day has a specific page in the packet to complete.

The skills reflected in the homework are based on the scope/sequence of Open Court phonics and our shared reading program. Some schools mandate homework for Pre-K because they think it’s going to close the achievement gap, others do it because they think parents “expect it” and still others assign homework because it’s what they’ve always done. There’s a little something here for everyone, no matter what your situation. And don’t forgot to supplement the academic kindergarten worksheets with some artistic pages to give the child both a mental and creative break.Even if your kindergartner is flourishing in the classroom, our printable kindergarten worksheets can accelerate the mastering of various reading, writing, math, and motor skills as they prepare to make the leap to first grade — which will be here before you know it!I send the complete packet home at the beginning of the month and have children return it each Friday so I can check that the work is being completed. I have much better participation and it is far less time consuming for me.If you don't have this font installed, the text is going to move all over the place! In other words, “It takes a village…” Some parents need more help and encouragement than others, it is also my job to offer that help and encouragement to those who need it.I believe every parent and teacher should be required to read The Read-Aloud Handbook: 7th Edition by Jim Trelease.I copy the homework calendar and the accompanying work packet for the month and hole-punch it. The monthly book record and sight word cards go in the pockets of the folders.Options abound with our kindergarten worksheets, which establish the foundation for developmental math, writing, and reading skills through activities that range from simple addition and sight words to vowel sounds and consonant blends.
