- An article published in the Genetics Sience Learning Center of the Department of Health Sciences of the Utah University, titled, The Stem Cell Debate: is it over.
(2014), poses a question that I find very interesting, and that I would like to answer.
By being able to discover and explore different things, we will be able to learn more.
Not only does Stem cells help people directly, but they help others indirectly.
Coming from a Catholic school background, stem cells were always lumped at the end of the chapter with abortion, contraceptives, and other awful things that “went against God’s plan.” I didn’t know what they were or why we really used them, but already had a negative connotation about them.
So, taking a neutral stance, I wanted to see what the world was saying today about this important research field....Many view the issue of stem cell research and stem cell therapy as morally wrong and a crime against humanity, others view the study of stem cells as the next step in modern science. Stem cells are non-specialized cells that have the capability to mature into more specified cells to help with certain functions or diseases.Cells are the basic building blocks of the human body and these tiny structures compose the skin, muscles, bones, and all of our internal organs....[tags: Stem cell, Embryonic stem cell] - Mary Bodunde Professor Couch Biology 1408 6 August 2015 The Discovery of Stem Cell Introduction Stem cells are cells that stand as support system for other cells.Stem cells are also cells that have the potential to become any type of cell in the body.[tags: Stem cell, Embryonic stem cell] - The topic of stem cell research has been brought to the attention of the public recently by the video put out by the Center for Medical Progress claiming to expose the gruesome truth: that Planned Parenthood has been selling baby parts to make a profit on the side for years. This is a misrepresentation of what is going on, however, as in the entire interview, which was over 100 minutes of footage shortened to just a nine minute video, the representative for Planned Parenthood referred to the donation with full parental consent of the embryos that would otherwise be disposed of....Some of the serious medical conditions such as cancer and birth defects which are lead by abnormal cell division and differentiation will have new therapy dealing with stem cell research.Stem cells have the ability to replace damaged cells and treat disease of extensive burns, leukemia (a cancer of blood forming tissues) and other blood disorders....By definition, “stem cells are characterized by their ability to self-renew and to differentiate into multiple different cell types and tissues” (Koch, Berg, and Betts, 155).Stem cells are undeveloped cells that are able to, once injected into the afflicted organ, tissue, or bone, self-renew into the cells that belong to that bodily region....
